"You have to fall in love with the process to become great"-Unknown
This blog post I will recreate a past scene of my life that has had a big affect on my life today in a negative way. Here are a few readings that have helped me construct this blog, What You Don't Know (Lulu Wang) and My Name is Margaret. Now I will show you this brief but very vital moment in my life.
Its game day and the nerves are going, my stomach is full of butterflies. But this isn't no ordinary game this is the championship. Me and my brother nick play for the same team in this rec league and we pull up to the gym calm and confident we are ready for whatever comes our way, or at least we think that. The gym smells like fresh wax with a sweaty aroma in the air. I scout out the gym the other team has only lost once all season and today we have to do something we haven't done all season, beat them twice.I hurt my knee the week before pretty bad. It was very weak it felt like my leg would give out all week and right now I'm contemplating on playing. But I can't let down my brother and the rest of the team so I am going to play. Tip off is in 5 minutes and I'm putting on biofreeze to help my knee feel better. But anyways Its game time and i'm ready for the action we take the court. I see some friends but for the next 4 quarters they are the enemies. The tip is off we won and I end up with the ball, the ball is so soft and cushiony but it feels like I have a string on it the way I'm handling it. So I come off the screen and pull up. Shoot. Swishh goes the net the crowd on its feet. I've been waiting for this moment for the longest time. Fast forward to the second quarter we hold the lead 17-14. Down the court we come I pass it to the center and he shoots. Clank! Off the rim it goes the other team is leaking out Im getting back they shoot a three and miss I go up for the rebound and down I come. POP! Uh-oh I felt this sharp pain and I'm lying here on this cold dusty hardwood court. This pain is unlike no other Im slamming the floor hoping for it to stop but that's not going to happen. I scope out the scene and I see everyone staring at me but the game is still going on then I see my mom. She is so worried and runs out on the court with my Dad and then they stop the game and help me up. I keep thinking to myself why? Why? Why did I play? Why didn't I just sit out for this pointless game? We walk over to the sideline the grab me a bag of ice and I just sit here watching my team go on without me. I'm furious but sad, confused but angry at myself. First game ends and we win I get up to motivate my team but I can no longer walk on my left leg. So I sit here talk to nick telling him “Lets go bro go out there and get this dub we didn't come all this way to lose” Nick replies, “Bet.” I trust him to help us come out on top. But we ended up winning the second game which means we have won the championship! I was so proud of them but the bad news is I tore my ACL, Meniscus, and fractured my tibia spine bone… I will need surgery and it takes 8-10 months to recover.

Your build up to the shot was quite stunning. And the turning point when you hurt yourself caused suspense. I feel like the pacing could use work though. I hope you're feeling better. :)

It sucks that your injury caught up with you in the middle of such a high stakes game, but maybe seeing you out there giving your all despite the risk gave your team morale! This is a real good read bro.

I did the same thing to my see as well. Worst pain but glad you pulled through and your team ended up winning.

Your use of description and action makes it super easy to follow the story. I feel like I could smell the gym.

I can't imagine the amount of pain you felt when that happened. I hope your knee is all good now and I'm glad your team was still able to pull through with the dub.
